Our Story

From a Problem to a Purpose

The plecostomus fish — known across the Caribbean as the "devil fish" — is silently destroying the rivers and wetlands of the Dominican Republic. Armored with bony plates, it has no natural predators. It collapses riverbanks, starves native fish, and chokes the ecosystems that local communities depend on.

Nobody wanted to deal with it. We decided to turn it into something extraordinary.

Born in the Dominican Republic. Backed by Puerto Rico.

Taino Pet Treats was founded by Danny Elias, a Puerto Rican entrepreneur with a passion for sustainable business and Caribbean innovation. Together with Altagracia — co-founder and General Manager — and her daughters Karen and Pamela, we built a small but mighty production facility in the Dominican Republic where every treat is hand-filleted, hand-cut, and slow-dehydrated with care and precision.

This is not a factory. This is a family building a movement.

Our Name

We named our brand after the Taíno people — the indigenous guardians of the Caribbean who lived in harmony with these rivers and ecosystems for thousands of years. Their spirit of respect for nature guides everything we do.

Our Mission

To heal the rivers and wetlands of the Caribbean through a responsible circular economy — producing treats that ensure the health of pets while restoring marine biodiversity.

$1 from every sale goes directly to Caribbean river restoration.
